I am bored.

This is the third time I have tried to get into this book and it is just not flowing for me. I have absolutely adored everything else that P. Djeli Clark has written but this just feels really stiff and bland. I am really disappointed I am not sure I am going to be able to finish this.

I suppose this book fits perfectly into the dark academia genre, crappy people doing crappy things to one another. There is not light in this book. I am not sure that it is worth it just for the metaphysical elements that I so love.

I am conflicted about this book. On the one hand I really love the writing and the vibes and can't seem to put it down because I am anticipating the metaphysical elements that are slowly being introduced. But then I am feeling really unsure about some of the elements in this book that aren't really being addressed? There are sexist, ableist and just really nasty overtones that are kind of just left hanging?

My soul needed this book, It is so damn good! Was totally feeling depressed and hopeless before I picked this up. It is so lush and beautiful and fun and smart! I can feel the magic.

I am confused, I have read the first 6 stories in this collection and none of them have had any futuristic elements. They have just read like average realist stories. I have done a quick scan of the rest of the stories and it does seem like they have futuristic elements. But the whole first half of this book isn't what it is advertised to be?
