It gets better and better

I’m quickly losing interest… loved the beginning but it seems the tensions set in the beginning got muddled, jumping around points of view, I was hoping the theme of reaching middle age and looking back and sizing up “ how you’ve done “ or coming to grips with your dreams not realized, people you were competitive with like Julian and Rye, haven’t reappeared. I guess if I push on they will resurface?

I love the beginning and the writers style and the early drama of facing the truth of your life at 50 and looking back at your choices and seeing it in context of a colleague who was more accomplished than the main character and who that character envied… great great set up, I hope it delivers

This book has been both good and frustrating. I am going through a difficult time now with medical issues and hospitalization and it has helped me as I spend hours waiting for procedures. Maybe that’s why it’s hard to remember the characters? It all takes place in Paris and George spends too much time plowing the typical flowery descriptions of Paris. It also has Marcel Proust as a fairly main character.

It’s great so far! Clever and engaging writing style, fun character, though not in the best place psychologically by any objective standard. Perhaps that’s why it’s so devilishly intriguing.

I stopped reading....I was expecting a more spiritual journey and it turned out to be about a doctrinaire religious journey that seemed more "dictated to" than inspirational.

Really good so far. Exciting format to tell a story!
