This is a detailed look at events leading up to the attack on Fort Sumter and the start of the Civil War. I always enjoy when an author takes the time to explain the inspiration/writing process for a book. Erik Larson started this research after the Jan 6 attack on the Capital and during Covid. The diaries, telegrams, and other first person accounts from the 1860’s are fascinating… and at times, horrific.
