good fun as john gray always is

math is jankier thank I thought. I understood maybe, generously 50% of this but what I did understand was very useful. A cure for any methodological/mathematical purists.

A lot of it was review from reading origins of wealth years ago, this is a bit too pop sci; some fun bits and anecdotes and other informative subsections though.

super interesting, and largely structuralist, analysis. gotta find myself a 60s onwards sequel in spirit. some chapters deserve to be re-read on their own, I think, because it can be quite dense.

compelling, but I'm not convinced of everything, even though I certainly want to be; I am approaching it with a little skepticism precisely because I already agree with it. I was really fascinated with -- and should probably reread -- his defense of the idea of telos of a human life which the Aristotelean notions of virtue seem to depend on and which seem most tenuous of all the legs it must stand on.

Wow — realizing that goodreads doesn't support group dms! Crazy! You can do individual dms, and goodreads does have its own forums (you kinda gotta go dig to find them + I'm not sure how active they are, generally, but it does exist), but it's fascinating that there's no group dm possibility.

Could be the key to making goodreads a real, viable social network.
