The scene I just read is why I love this author… he’s a master at drawing you in slowly, making you think a scene is going to play out one way, only to pull a 180 and you’re reading one of the most spine-chilling scenes you’ve ever read. 🔥

What I have always wished for, desired, and coveted, is the life of an artist—a free, independent life, relying only on my own resources, and accountable only to myself." YES 🙌🏻 Eugenie Danglars, my absolute favorite character in this book

‘Did you experience your father's death in your absence? Did you see the woman you loved hold out her hand to your rival, while you were croaking in the depths of the abyss?' Monte Cristo plunged his hands deeper into his hair.

'No, Mercédès said, interrupting him. 'But I have seen the man I loved preparing to become the murderer of my son!’ 🔥🔥🔥

This Count knows how to play chess… damn

I loved Edmund Dantes. But I’m not a huge fan of the count of Monte Cristo….

I am on page 97 and there hasn’t been an end to a sentence yet—all commas, not one period. Even Faulkner gave his readers a period here and there. This is tough, but I accepted this challenge.

This may be one of the most racist books I've ever read. At first I was like "oh cool this author is including a diverse cast of characters" only to make all the black people the villains. Like, what??

I’m really enjoying this story, but I’ll have to shelve it for now to read the books for my book clubs. Au revoir, Edmond Dantes.
