The author is claiming that maybe the apostles imagined seeing Jesus after he died because they were feeling guilty that they fled the scene when Jesus was being killed, because according to research grieving people tend to have visions of their loved ones after they die (especially if they feel guilt) and they believe it to be true. Imagine being so traumatized you accidentally create a religion😭

what I've gathered so far:
1-The main reason why people believe jesus was a god is because they believe he was resurrected because: 1-visions 2-his tomb was said to be empty. The tomb could have been empty for any other reason.
2-Historians can't subscribe to a view that is not wildly held and so they can't prove theological beliefs or miracles.
Also now I want to read further about this from an islamic pov

The author states that since the bible was written years after Jesus, historians had to find a way to know what actually goes back to jesus and what was borrowed from judaism or invented later on and this is done by the criteria of dissimilarity, so if what happened was not in the benefit of earlier jews or early christians, it is thought of as authentic. But this is not a logical proof, it's just probability.
