I was so sure I’d finish this quick. Then I didn’t pick it up for a few days.

Everyone in town is obnoxious but I’m really enjoying this so far.

So many typos.

“I took a shower. I got out of the shower. I put on jeans. I put on my shoes. It looks like rain. I grab an umbrella.”
Just get on with it!

Me, last night: Nothing scary is happening yet, but I really shouldn’t be reading this late at night especially since I’m sick and my brain tends to go places when I am.
My brain while sleeping: (Dreams up scary scenario that might happen to the characters.)

I might be ready to go back to Covid, or maybe this is so chill about it that only Libba Bray’s magic can make me think that. Let’s face it that year needed time to simmer and anyone trying to write about it so soon was overreaching.

It’s kind of funny how many times I’ve heard the story of these two from different sources.

While I appreciate not going into long tangents about everyone he encountered, a brief history would be useful. Also I don’t know if I should say kudos for not shying away from his time at the brothels or see it as a really weird brag.
Pretty sure it’s the latter. 🙃

First thought: it’s so heartbreaking what he and his family had to go through.
Second thought: will I be doing further reading on the history of Cuba? (I’m a history nerd so most likely.)

Reading the newly republished version, but looking through my shelf on here it turns out I added the original to my to-read shelf exactly ten years ago today. 🤯

I am not following at all.

Pleasantly surprised so far.

Everything started crumbling and Chevie’s first instinct was to get her gun, so now everything about her is annoying me. It’s like those stupid characters in movies that shoot chaotically at the thing that doesn’t respond to bullets but they genuinely think they’re going to save the world.

I find it hard to believe I already read this once before because I am so bored. Also, I have thoughts on Cleopatra crossing an ocean to see a man she hadn’t been with in years. Twice.

I really don’t care about these two. And it also bugged me that Mason was comparing her new two week relationship to that of her brother’s with a girl he knew from childhood.

Yeah I’m really only caring about Heather at this point.

Ever since before I even began the first book I’ve been trying to figure out if this is a part of the Wonderous Strange universe, it’s been so long since I read that trilogy I’m kind of surprised I even made the connection.

Haven’t decided how I fully feel about this but I already downloaded the following two books.

Everyone else right now: obsessed with Greek mythology.
Me: How much do I actually know about Norse mythology?
This thought inspired by my other current read.

Another Cleopatra based novel I’m about to give up on.

Can’t sleep, need answers.

I wasn’t in much of a headspace to read about bombings (don’t think I ever really am so maybe odd book choice I know) so I was a little put off, but now that it’s more murder mystery it’s got my attention.

He uses a lot of exclamation points‼️

One thing I needed to know from this is if William Frawley was a curmudgeon towards him or at least had a soft spot towards the kid. Answer’s somewhere in the middle.

It was losing me so I skipped ahead a few chapters, hopefully now that it’s more paranormal it’ll pick up.

Usually with Kiersten White’s horror novels my rule has become don’t read before bed because my mind will get ahead of itself, but this just has a strange sense of calm. For a murder mystery anyway."
