In honor of The Odyssey premier, I shall read this (definitely very accurate) retelling of the story of Helen of Troy.

I have been interested in the Weaver family since learning they attended the same church as my family for a time in the 1970s. Always fascinating to see how the religious tenets I grew up with could be so easily shifted into radical extremism.

Is this book derivative? Yes.

Counterpoint: will I always want to read about a plucky young lass joining some type of life or death competition in order to bring glory to her home? Also yes.

Oof....nearly 3/4 of the way through and now the fact that this novel is a decade old suddenly became very apparent.

Lenu lists all the reasons Nino is the worst and then moves back into his apartment. *sigh*

Current tally of children Nino has fathered and abandoned: 2. (I'm sure the number will keep growing.)
