Im assuming David’s mom had to remarry for financial reasons? What a shame. That marriage got her pregnant again, killed her, and the baby.

David’s Mom is kind of a rude dunce. She reminds me of the mom from Second Hand Lions. Also everybody is pretty rude to Pegotty.

I really like Peggotty. She kinda reminds me of my sister. I feel like David talks a little too fondly of his mom and not fondly enough of Peggotty.

Amina is supposed to be a middle aged pirate captain in the 12th century. Additionally I’m still wrestling with the concept of her being a devout Muslim. I feel bad saying this as I know the author converted to Islam later in life…but there is a cultural appropriation feel to this book. Aside from that she talks like a 21st century agnostic teenage girl.

YES! SEA MONSTER! I think I would have enjoyed this book more if it was fantasy rather than historical fantasy as I’ve found a few inaccuracies (I’m picky about historical fiction and certain events are not lining up with being 10-20 years after the first crusade) but a lady pirate, a sea monster, a magical enemy? SIGN ME UP.

I know this may just be a regular character flaw, which is a good thing to have. But I don’t understand why the main character hates being gawked at when she does the exact same thing to attractive men? I feel like most women who don’t like being looked at like a prized hog don’t look at attractive men that way either. They don’t return the behavior that makes them uncomfy in my experience.

I wish this was just a fantasy rather than a historical fantasy. I’m enjoying the fantasy part but the history I just….it feels like watching a period piece where everyone talks like they’re 21st century New Yorkers…or valley girls. It’s hard to take serious.

I forgot how much I do not care for stories that center an antihero. I know they are supposed to be sympathetic, but to me, without that strong moral compass they just aren’t to me. We’ve got:
1. A Muslim woman who does not stick to the fundamentals of their faith.
2. A Christian woman who doesn’t stick to their fundamentals.
3. A home wrecker
4. And a man cheating on his wife

…so Kaladin and Dalinar are both dead. Which fair I mean their stories were concluded. Do I think they’ll be brought back? Yes.

Bro Wit telling Dalinar he’s been sleeping with Jasnah is wack. How old is this dude….multiple lifespans and you still kiss and tell? Ew.

I think the fatal flaw of this book is too much expansion. Book 1 built so that book 2 could blow you away. I assumed book 3 was just a flook. But with book 4 focusing so much on building, this book isn’t really giving a satisfying conclusion to that unfortunately.

Idk if it’s my culture talking but 18 is sooo young to get married. I understand in this world it’s for political reasons. But also only a couple months of engagement? This book is such an odd mix of old time culture and new age ideas.

If I’m being honest I’m having a hard time keeping track of everyone and how the story is progressing. I’ve been enjoying the Szeth flashbacks. Adolin lost a leg, Renarin and Relain are dating. I’m completely lost on Dalinar, Shallon, and Navani. Not a clue what’s going on with them. I don’t think Jasnah has been super present so I think I’m good there. Hoping it will all come together for me soon.

Okay so Jamie is in prison, his brother Dougle might me dead, and Jenny killed a man by bashing his skull in with a rock (rightfully so).

Poor Jenny :( I couldn’t imagine living in a time where I couldn’t read first and foremost. But having people relentlessly fabricate things about you just because they have nothing better to do would be torture. On top of that her mom passing due to the stress of that situation and her own father believing what the gossips say about her is terrible. I couldn’t imagine not resenting your dad in that scenario.

I think this is set in the late 1600s or early 1700s but I believe our main character Jamie is a Scottish Loyalist and his Clan is currently unfortunately getting their butts handed to them by the Brits.

I don’t know why, but I don’t particularly care for Kaladin using therapy speak. I know that Kaladin is supposed to be righteous character in general, but hearing his inner monologue about Szeth kinda makes him sound self righteous. Maybe that is also because every person I’ve known who identifies as “the therapist friend” holds it over your head even when they haven’t helped as much as they think.

Dude poor Szeth :( Poor Molly. I would never condone murder but if I was young, someone barges into my house, eats my pet for dinner, and torments me?? Poor guy was traumatized by losing his pet and then traumatized again after killing that guy. He had every right to lose it.

Bruh so you’re telling me that Szeth is trying to just do his job so he can exit life permanently? Just get the job done and goodnight? I mean I guess I get it but dang.

Honestly pop off Szeth. I ain’t taking no advice from someone who doesn’t have things sorted themselves.

I’m sorry. What? Rock possibly being executed by his people? No bro idc we left off on Rock being reunited with his family and that’s it. He lives happily ever after. I’m chalking this up to Kaladin being a pessimist idc. Rock is happy and well fed and loved and that’s cannon. Idc idc.

Pattern being a sword and Testament being a shield is dope as heck. I think the only thing I’m confused on is did Shallon half separate from Veil? It seems they can talk, but not in the same way as Radiant. I fear I missed something.

I think Wit is my second favorite character of this series.

Him speaking his frustrations on the passions made a lot of sense. I think it summarized the error in most religions. Blaming individuals for things that are just luck, fate, or larger systems at work. So much in life is completely out of an individuals control. All outcomes are roughly 50% luck.

I didn’t realize how badly I needed a Dabbid chapter. I feel like Dabbid knowing that he’s not stupid was so meaningful. Also I vibe with Lyft heavy.

Idk why she would protest at killing these people. My only protest would be they didn’t suffer enough for killing my man.
