My first ever Fantasy-book, a tip from my youngest daughter, and - so far - a truly great read!

Well, ahum, swallow... what can I say? Not an easy job to keep your cool with this one. Both intriguing and repelling, for sure.

Until now, almost no book by Cormac McCarthy was able to conquer my heart. Still, I'm giving him another chance with this penultimate work. We'll see.

It's snowing outside, freezing cold, just about the right time to try a reread of this classic, 45 years after my first read.

Ah, to be able to wander again in the universe of the lamented Javier Marias, how good it is to be carried away by those langourous phrases and fine reflections on the human animal!

I did not expect it, starting of as what seemed a young adult fiction, but this actually is a great read, with sharp dialogues and above all a very interesting and original exploration of the identity-issue. I wonder how Sanyal is going to lay this down!

Just finished my three thousandth review, with the delicious "A Month in the Country", no not by Turgenjev, but by J.L. Carr! A real gem.

Second read

I tought, "why don't I read an historical fiction story for once, crowning my extensive reading program on ancient Mesopotamian history?" Well, I'm 80 pages in, and I already remember why I didn't do this in the past. :(

Only 50 pages in, I got a completely different and far more positive view on this booklet, in comparaison with when I read it 25 years ago. Did my reading habit or my personality change so much?

I know a lot of people have a love-or-hate relationship with Solnit. I know for sure I'm under the spell of her galvanizing prose.

At first sight, only 20 pages in, this seems like the poetic counterpart of 'Olive Kitteridge' (the novel by Elisabeth Strout): the same empathic dissection of life in a village (apparently somewhere in the Mediterranean) and a clinical dissection of the process of ageing.

So soon after 'Olive Kitteridge' I couldn't resist starting this sequel. Growing soft in the middle, perhaps?

Wow, what a voice is speaking, here. I guess this is going to end up high on my chart.
