I’ve been looking for this book for five years, and found it immediately when we visited Powell’s City of Books in Portland. WHAT A BOOKSTORE!

In any case, this essay is everything I had hoped.

Stayed up until late finishing this ruminative dystopian, er... rumination.

Re-reading. I've been kind I disappointed by Neal Stephenson's most recent books -- they seem to get Heinlein-ier (and not in a good way), so I wanted to go back to the really great stuff.

There are enough interesting ideas here for any three books. This will be a movie in three years (or a blockbuster trilogy in nine) -- read it now and be ahead of the curve!

This is good stuff. If sci-fi is your thing, this is totally worth reading.

I wanted to read the Analects along with Judge Fang :)

I cannot believe that the Dashiell Hammett short story "Nightmare Town" has not yet been made into a Vin Diesel movie.

I should never have made fun of James Clavell; I'm hooked on this god-rotting novel wot crosses Oregon Trail wit' Dynasty wit' a court intrigue thriller, an' lards it all with pirate brogue.

Hmm. So far (halfway), it's all Neal Stephenson sizzle, no Neal Stephenson steak.

I needed a break from David Foster Wallace and his Trained Footnote Circus, so I spun the "authors with three names" wheel and read "Splinter of the Mind's Eye" by Alan Dean Foster. Published in 1978, this was to be the sequel to Star Wars if that movie hadn't been a hit. It has lots of sexual tension between Luke and Leia (this was before the other movies were written.) And you know what it DOESN'T have? Footnotes!
