I actually hate this book. The characters are unbearable and I don't buy Connell as working-class at all. The plot is non-existent. I'm dreading getting through the rest of it.

I hate it when novels switch between first and third person with no warning. It just seems so amateurish.

I've literally only gotten to the halfway point even though it feels like I've been reading it for forever, which is weird. It's not a bad thing, I'm really enjoying it and it's a very good book, but Jesus Christ is it long.

Julian's such a gross, rapey piece of shit.

What's this one going about, she's turning 30 in August? Her birthday was in January like one chapter ago.

Yeah, cause there's no way a guy who likes guys could also like girls. No well-known sexual orientations cover that. Oh wait.

I'd be giving up on this if I didn't know parts of it are set in Bergen, which is like-



It's one of my favourite cities, so basically I'm stuck reading a 600 page book with no plot just to get to that bit.

Theo- "You know how I loathe women who wear a lot of make-up."

Seriously?

Theo is very quickly annoying the shite out of me.

It's not bad, but the stakes are fairly low.

" "Vigilantism is not a good idea. Didn't you see that story in the paper about that girl from that rich school who-" "I'm not going to kill anyone," I scoffed." Ahh, I love shout-outs. =D The fact Amy and Rebecca know about Eliza from Fury is really cool.

It's definitely lighter than Fury, not sure what I think about it so far. Could go in any direction from here.

Reading about Patrick Ness's fundraiser for Syria, and I'm sobbing. Too many selfish dickfaces are around at the moment, whining about themselves as they look at a photo of a dead toddler. There's something comforting in the fact that there's a whole community of writers and readers who ARE showing compassion towards the refugees, not hate and ignorance. This won't bring back the dead, but I hope it helps the living.

The world-building is brilliant in this one so far, you almost feel like you're in America in the 1970s as you read it.

I'm not really sure of the setting of this book. It's all about this war with Sinnostan, which doesn't exist in real life, but it mentions Nazi Germany and Los Angeles, so I'm not really sure how to take it.

Ahh, I was right, shit's starting to hit the fan now. XD

I want to be enjoying this more than I am. D= Still, I don't think it's a bad novel by any stretch, I just think it's too much of an introduction, like I'll enjoy Book 2 way more, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. =D

Ah, Dai gets a char sui bao in this book just after I make one for real. Except I suspect his was actually a white ball of dough with pork inside, not a weird mashup of cake and uncooked bread with Chinese barbecue sauce(the only bit that turned out good) and burgers inside lmfao. Think I'll just keep getting my baos in the Chinese shop just off O'Connell Street. XD

Still, I'm enjoying this so far.

I'm kind of getting the impression that this is a novel I'll enjoy more on a re-read, since it's a good story, just a bit confusing. XD

Michelle is the by far the best character in this pile of shit. She is the only one who ever actually engages her brain, she has a far more interesting storyline than anyone else and she's surprisingly likeable as a person.

Michelle- Okay, I don't think you should follow him.

Matilda- Why not? It's the only way I'm going to find out.

Michelle- Eh, how about asking him?

See? Bit of common sense.

I need to know what [the text] was about. I need to know it's entirely innocent and that I have nothing to worry about about. So I decide there's nothing else for it.

I'm going to have to follow him.

...Or you could just ask him.

Yeah, cause it's not like Jay assaulted two men in the last week or anything, is it? He's so misunderstood.

Jay is such a stupid dickhead, I'm honestly hoping someone throws him off a roof. He's just horrible, and yet he's held up on a pedestal because he looks great.

This book is seriously shit.

It's starting to get good now.

I just am not feeling this book. I literally haven't touched it since I was on the plane going over to America, and I only read it then because my TV didn't work and I had nothing else to do.

It's doing a lot of jumping around the place. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, I'll have to see where it goes.
