Re-read Jane Eyre today, and it made me re-evaluate my thoughts on the character of Rochester
1. He emotionally manipulates Jane, a woman in his employ
2. Uses Ms. Ingram simply to make Jane jealous
3. Divulges Bertha's existence to Jane only when forced to
I get the whole deal about fallible Byronic heroes, but wouldn't this behaviour be classified as sociopathic and chauvinistic these days? What are your thoughts?
