Chapter 6 of audiobook - loving it. Directly challenging other contemporary books, like Sapiens

I've struggled to complete books for many years now. The Candy House is helping me remember how much I like literary fiction as a genre. I do! I've tried fantasy, and sci fi, and romance, and popular fiction. None of them tickle my mind like literary fiction. I worry this makes me a snob, which is what prompted me to experiment. But it's just what I think is fun! The Candy House is absolutely fun.

In a year of unemployment, I got to decompress from any schedule imposed on me. My time was mine. I learned so much and think I’m happier and more productive as a result. It’s also why I think freelancing suits me. I’m interested if this book lines up with any of what I feel I’ve picked up by listening to myself.

This Carl Sagan book from 1996 is darkly prophetic, warning the dangers of disinformation.

I’m reading a translation by Meric Casauban that I got from the library.

I’m listening to this for a second time. It’s written as a conversation between a student and a philosopher. I want to rip off the philosopher’s head. I really do want to learn how to care less about what other people think; there’s freedom there. But sometimes books like this distract me because, if the reader had a mental illness, I don’t know if this helps or harms them.

This book is cool to savor. Lots to think about along the way.
