I love this little book, even though the subtitle reads "Alfred the Great and England during the Dark Ages," and he hasn't been born yet.

Here's a quote that may show why:

"All in all Norse paganism looks like what you get if teenage boys design a religion, focused on fighting, fornication, and alcohol, whereas Christianity seemed to them like it was thought up by their mothers." Page 65.

Alfred has still not been born yet .... LOL

16 pages in (hey, I don't get much opportunity to read) and Claudius has just invaded Britain. But the author is sardonic and funny. Not 1066 and All That funny, but very good.

This book is kinda depressing me because I see so much of myself in the case-studies, yet my doctors are giving me the run-around about starting treatment. So I put it down a lot.

Page one? LOL, after the intro....

Covers the same ground as Bernard Cornwell's The Last Kingdom, but factually and succinctly. Not bad at all, a good introduction I think.

I stopped, several weeks ago, in mid-story. Now I'll have to start it again, when I'm done with Wicked.

Wow.

Kind of a workbook, but it seems to be useful.
