Gaunt’s letter to Ellwood after Ypres was one of the most horrifyingly beautiful three pages of prose I’ve ever read. Holy fuck.

“Murder. What a quaint idea.” Oh Gaunt, you kill me. 😆

“My mother… does not inhabit the house, the way the other mothers do; she’s airy and hard to pin down. The others don’t go skating on the neighborhood rink, or walk in the ravine by themselves. They seem to me grown-up in a way that my own mother is not.”

Ouch. I feel unfairly called out. 😅

No, I’m not crying because Tennyson named his son Hallam. I AM NOT AHHHHHHHH.

Still positively obsessed with this.

Tennyson’s oeuvre has always been so fascinating to me, but I never expected his life to be so compelling, too. God, I’m having trouble putting this book down.

I’ve somehow completely forgotten the twists in this book. I guess it has been nearly a decade since I last read it lol

DAVID, WHY?! But also Hella, why girl?! … Finally, GIOVANNI, NO! In other news, today has officially ended in yet another Corinne Crash Out^TM, but at least this one was a literary one? 😅

(In other news, it’s wild how many pages I’ve dog-eared in just Part One. My dread for Giovanni knows no bounds too. But I’m also a little - fine, a lot - terrified by how much I relate to David. So um, there’s that.)

Damn this book is so good.
