I'm jumping back into Balogh's Westcott Series. Over the last few years I've somehow managed to randomly collect all of the books in this series.

This book is so beautiful. I sure hope it has a happy ending.

Wow. This is a pretty grim and shocking compared to Fox's The Widow of Pale Harbor and The Orphan of Cemetery Hill.

“There was something corrupting about Malaya. A sense of decay. Something that made even the most decent of people lose their moral code.”

I’m struggling with these characters. Nothing could possibly happen that could redeem Barrington’s character - he is loathsome. And Evie - why can’t she see what a fool she is being about Arthur?

Oh the magic of this book! So wonderfully confusing and beautiful!

Ohmygoodness. That prologue. It is a thing of beauty. I wish I could include it here as a quote, but alas it is a bit too long. I've re-read it three times now. I truly hope this story continues to be as poetically and lyrically amazing.

Just can't go on any further.

There are times that I don't want to pick this book back up and continue reading. I'm so afraid that something (more) horrible is going to happen to these characters and it is just going to break. my. heart.
