Loved this. Now excited to read more murakami

I wanted to read this book originally published in 1943. It's not a happy story but it is a fascinating tale of one American family's experience during the early 20th century.

Thoroughly enjoyed reading this story. Simple and rich. I look forward to reading more by this author.

Good story. Familar characters. Not my favorite Erdrich story

I love this book. I just finished and as I sit here thinking about it I realize I will definitely read it again.

wonderful storyteller

I liked this book. I didn't like the short choppy sentences in the beginning. Almost quit reading it because I was annoyed by the staccato structure. But I pushed on and it gradually changed. I became very interested in the story and the characters. Ended up thoroughly enjoying the book. I now understand why the dialogue was written that way in the beginning.
