Excellent Russian novel about Bazarov the 'nihilist' and 'new man' showing the persistence of modernity.

It took me a long time to finish this book. I liked it much more when compared to Charterhouse of Parma.

The main character's love of coffee gives the reader the idea that he is a connoisseur of good coffee from different parts of the world like Kenya or Mexico. I enjoy reading about his bovine faced students at the community college who keep looking at their phones in a dull anxiety for the future moment. I like how he plays Stravinsky's Rite of Spring and likens it to the moment before you are mutilated. Revealing.

I see how a critic called this his “Bernhardian project” because I see some of Benrhard (after reading Concrete and The Loser) in this book.

What is admirable about this book is that it focuses on a real love for electronic music without all that wrongness it could easily sink into negativity with. I feel a strong bond with Marcel and his music tastes! Great so far!
