This book is meant to be read over the course of a year so I won’t be finishing it until November. Thus far, I am enjoying the author’s insights and interpretations.

I finished Volume I . I will take a break before reading volume II. The story kept my interest because I haven’t read much about this area of Eastern Europe but I didn’t find any of the characters particularly compelling. I found the carefree privileged lifestyles of these foreigners to be quite irksome and tedious at times.

Bittersweet. Rings true. I loved it.
