This is reading like a sequel not a debut, and not in a good way. It’s like this was written as HP 8 - you’re still supposed to be familiar with the world, characters, and their relationships because of the previous books. But you’re not because she’s changed all the names and magic system, as well as the whole world? Confusing. But, I’m still intrigued enough to finish.

In true Sanderson form, this last 20% is packing punches and plot twists.

It’s giving Hunger Games world, Heartless Hunter politics, and a sprinkling of Red Queen vibes (but I can’t tell you exactly why). But with pirate mouths and sexual angst 😆
It’s bringing me back to when I was obsessed with dystopian, and I am here for that. I’m entertained and want to know what happens. So far, is it original? Not really. But the FMC is a badass, so let’s keep going.

There wasn’t anything inherently wrong with this book, except that nothing was really happening. It started off very cute. I loved the Rhys comments, the banter, etc. but it then just never had a crescendo. I’m sure it ended well, I just have too many books to read to push through ones I deem boring.

The FMC is not for me. She comes off as a little immature and very pushy. The side characters are enjoyable. But as this is a romance, the focus is on the FMC and MMC, and I am just not jiving with her.

So far it’s giving a fantasy You’ve Got Mail during a WW2-esque time period vibes. And I’m loving it.

Slow so far, but build the intrigue.
Plus, it’s New England in the fall… all the vibes.

It’s not the books fault, I just wasn’t feeling it at the time. I might come back to it later.

3.75… such a great build up, but I was left wanting at the end. Felt rushed and unsatisfying, with still so many questions.
Some may like that in their mysteries, but I need answers.
