My Nth attempt to read fantasy/romantasy: failed yet again.

The audiobook production is so very annoying. I understand what they were going for, but with this constant switching between normal voice and "recordings" (and sometimes incredibly loud beeps in those "recordings") you have to adjust the volume every 3-4 minutes, because it's too loud...oh, wait, now it's too quiet, oh, wait, it's too loud again. URGH!

This is my second Elizabeth Day book in a row and there's rape AGAIN. In detail, again. Basically, the exactly same scene again, just with different characters' names. Do we really need women getting raped in every book (rhetorical).

I'm equally awed and horrified by this cunning woman. And I'm literally nauseated right now because I worry so much whether another one of her diabolical plans succeeds. (I hope it does, as she really, really went all in.)

Ugh, I really enjoyed the previous three books because they were nice police procedurals, but this one is suddenly turning into a fucking romance and it annoys the hell out of me. I don't care about their personal lives! I don't care to see Derwent basically harassing Maeve into a pretend relationship claiming it's for work! Blergh, why. I probably should just drop this one and wait for the next book in the series.

I like it so far (it's your typical Kristin Hannah book slash Hallmark movie) but I feel like I need a "baby fever" tag for books like this one, where women make wanting a child their whole personality -_-

While the accounts of girls dressed as boys and given the same freedom are fascinating, by this point I feel the book is becoming repetitive. Okay, we have already established that there's that strange Afghan custom to sometimes present daughters as sons to the world, so now, I guess, we'll keep nailing it down with the rest 60% of the book.

Clearly I'm not a non fiction reader, lol.

It's cute and all, but I think my ability to read 1500 pages books is lost forever. Just thinking about how long it would get me to reach the end makes me weep.

It's very weird and reads like a script. He does this, than this, then goes there. I don't see a point to waste two hours of my time on this, I'd rather watch the movie.
