This one will break me. I've been a feminist for a decade now, but the kind of feminist who blames instead of accepts. Bell, I'm tired and ready for change. I'm sorry it took me so long to get here.

The story so far is interesting. I feel like someone is telling me snippets of their past as they remember them. I'm generally not a fan of this type of writing, but Ishiguro is skillfully crafting a world that I'm both excited and terrified to learn more about. What a banger of a book to start the new year with!

This is a seismic mind shift that he is asking of me. He is asking me to move from living in my memories and worries to living in the now. I've always avoided the now because I'm afraid of wasting it, but that's exactly what I've done by avoiding myself.

It's like 50 shades of Grey, but the male MC is an athlete instead of a billionaire and he's just as much of a self centered asshole, but the author is spinning him as eccentric because of his country of origin. Also, the super talented female MC is a cliche.

I hate to say it, but this is all starting to make a lot of sense. Also, I realized I don't care if it's "real" if it improves my life.

I'm not getting happy Swedish lady vibes from this. I'm getting bitter from years of having to do silent labor and deciding she would do it better than those who came before. I don't understand why she considers the death rituals for loved ones a burden. Maybe it is because I have always done that type of cleaning together with loved ones that I cannot fathom the bitterness?

This book has devastated me. I mostly don't even like it, and it's hard to get through. I've been taking my time, but time is a fickle thing...

This is a beast of a book. It's overwritten and a mess of idealism. I don't know how this won awards other than being a sheerly terrifying book

He's reaching a bit. Not loving the fantastical writing but the individual story arcs are interesting.

The structure might be the death of me, but I want to be enchanted.
