The last time I read this book I fell into a deep depression and I have been afraid to reread it, wondering if it was the effect of the novel or my life situation at the time. My mental health is okay at the moment, so I’m hoping to enjoy this reread at long last and not collapse in a pit of despair. Fingers crossed.

Now it’s getting creepy. Reading about the past… about how people watched this happen one step at a time, how they sat at home and watched it on their TVs, too tired to do anything, thinking it would all blow over, lots of women protesting but only a few men. It’s like reading about the present. Don’t let this happen. Go out and protest NOW.

Not what I was expecting… this is more of an autobiography. It’s interesting to hear about his background, but I’m not learning much about Israel and Palestine since the author lived in other Middle Eastern countries, as well as Canada and the U.S.
