This book gave me hope! I decided to start embracing the power and joy of minimalism. Now everything I own is on my desk, I can't even find my mouse. I got so depressed i found another book to read. I've finished that book. Now to come back to this book and see if there is a chapter on "everything is on my desk and I'm paralysed by confusion".

Why do people like this book?! I don't get the excitement! I feel like I'm watching paint dry. Is the entire story going to be one long exposition?

"You can’t have too much dog in a book."
I'm absolutely ravenous for this book's characters and prose. I'm not even sure I understand what is going on, but I'm utterly, irrevocably in love.

Not the kind of book I'd expect to like, but the characters are extremely interesting.

I admit I have come to this book full of bias. First, I'm extremely frustrated at how difficult it has been to get this book. The kindle version is geographically locked, so it cant be bought from Kenya. And then, it's only available in hard cover. For almost 3000 bob. I really want to support Kenyan writers, but the publisher seems to be deliberately setting the book out of the way of the typical reader.

Does it make sense to be so held in thrall by a book? I'm looking for a loan. I need to buy the next book in this series.

Book 2 was certainly an improvement from book 1 in terms of pacing. Clearly Deborah Harkness has done her historical research, and had fun re-imagining historical figures. In fact, this book was probably more about The members of the Night School that any major contribution to the narrative of the plot. While I'm unlikely to read this again, I am looking forward to completing the trilogy. Onwards.

It was a bad idea to get this book.
I got this book to "rest between serious reading", and it's JUST. SO. SLOW. To be fair, I'm probably suffering from Vampire fatigue after Vampire Diaries and Twilight and The Shadowhunters, but seriously, why should a book develop this slowly.
This must be the devastating pace of a vampire's life.
Also, Matthew is pretty annoying.

I carried out an exercise in which before reading this book, I Stole it's title and Invented a story. I hardly ever read the blurb's on the back of a book, usually going with my gut and picking a cover I like from Amazon's "Recommended Reading" books. Two pages into the book, and I'm sure the writer is setting us up for something very sad, and it's not going to be anything like the story I invented :-(

Sometimes I forget how good books can be. When they're not just a way to pass time, but a chance to immerse yourself in an alternate universe. Reading this book is like experiencing a great movie in IMAX 3D after 7 months of only having access to overdubbed telenovellas on a scratched DVD.

Kind of stuck. No pun intended, but the book got a little heavy.
