What a strange thing, a lack of darkness…for good things to make you happy and bad things to make you sad. My emotions never tracked quite so logically. Maybe that was what I was drawn to in the first place, his peacefulness a necessary correction for me. It did not occur to me how I would have to spend my life explaining my darkness and dissatisfaction to someone who didn’t even understand the concept of it.

Such a slow read. I’m shelving it for a bit bc I’m just not into the storyline.

Why the fuck is there an entire chapter detailing every morsel consumed and the caloric content for an entire week? Who gives a shit? Are we trying to hit a specific word count? Why would an editor not catch that and be like, “yeah, no one gives a fuck what you eat on any given day, let alone over an entire week. Just say you dieted and move on to the next chapter.”

It doesn't matter if you're talking 1958, 1985, or 2011. In America, where surface has always passed for substance, people always believe guys like Frank Dunning.

I didn't want to read this... ever. But it was free and I guess I need some romance in my life so I gave it a whirl. So far, the writing is abysmal, but the love story is intriguing. Admittedly, I am very unfamiliar with this genre. Is it typical for authors to shy from the terms "labia" and "vulva" while constantly referring to a woman's external genitalia as her "sex"?

Gah! This book is boring AF! Nothing has happened yet and I have no clue where the book is headed. I don't think about the characters at all when I'm not reading and I don't really care where the story will go.

Bored. Gave up.
