I bought these books for Grace last Christmas and she and Peter read a tiny bit and both said it was boring. Now getting our own cat has inspired me to give it a go. I don't think they gave it a fair chance, it's not bad at all!

So I'm up to the bit where Daisy is in Y5 and is playing the Angel Gabriel in her school play. If she's born in 1986 that puts this in roughly 1995. She mentions one of her classmates playing with Pokemon cards.*Buzzer sound* 🚨 Pokemon cards were only released in Japan in 1996 and the UK in around 99. The only reason I really paid any attention to this is because they came out when I (born 1990) was in Y5!

'As we ate supper, we talked about nuts in general. "I like walnuts," I said.
Jack said, "Dad they are literally the most cringe nuts you can like."
"I also like almonds"
"Almonds are like BTEC walnuts," Jack said'

😂😂 Something about that just tickled me.

Husband read this to our daughter at bedtime and said it was so good that I should just read it for pleasure so here we are 😂

A truly stunning book. The stories themselves are not edited brilliantly, the punctuation and spacing particularly in the speech parts needs work. However the illustrations and the fact sections are wonderful.

Time for a bit of childhood nostalgia.

I'm rereading this for the umpteenth time. There's just something about Wuthering Heights that I love. I've seen 2 different film adaptations of it, a stage play, read/own a comic style version of it and now I'm reading this beautiful blue hardback copy complete with a few illustration plates, that I found on Ebay. There's some humour at the start of this that I've never picked up on before.

Still finding this hilarious. Just read about adding sugar to formula and salt to baby's veggies. Also, giving orange juice at 2 months and raw egg yolk at 4 months 😅 no wonder infant mortality rates were higher.

Loving this so far. Some of the really old advice cracks me up to think about how far we've come as a society since the 60s which I think is when my edition was published. However there is some truly timeless advice focusing on the parents feelings and selfcare that there is a definite lack of in modern parenting books that seem to focus exclusively on the child.

It's absolutely shocking the things that these radium companies were able to get away with! To lie and say that the girls didn't have radium poisoning, to perform a secret autopsy and take away the withered jaw bone so that they could lie about a cause of death. The mind boggles. What a horrific way for these women to die. Even worse - for the ones who didn't die first who had to watch their own fate 😱
