Drew Tschirki is starting Great Minds of the Eastern Intellectual Tradition
So far so good, but Lecture 19 on Japanese Buddhism could have easily been like five lectures. Saicho and Kukai should have been their own. Sad to hear Pure Land basically reduced to popular devotion and “grace.” But I know he’s not a Japanese Buddhologist, and overall the lecture was fine superficial.

Excellent. 10 stars if I could. Nagarjuna is the greatest philosopher to have lived.

Drew Tschirki is starting 12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos
Chapter three is all about justifying not serving people because they’ll just drag you down. Completely antichristian, and he even uses scripture to justify his nonsensical position

That said, I get why right wingers like this guy now. He basically just says “screw those guys, they’re losers.”

Drew Tschirki is 13% done with Be the Refuge: Raising the Voices of Asian American Buddhists
Learning about ironically overlooked Asian American Buddhists is always great. Unfortunately, “American Buddhism” is always understood as “white Buddhism” when the majority of American Buddhists are Asian

Interesting: white Buddhists always bring a judeo-Christian, ego-filled background with them.

Bad point: Honen did not reject Tendai. The Japanese history of Jodo Shinshu wasn’t entirely accurate.
