Just not feeling it with this one - just feels so ....

Currently reading: Edward IV’s Fatal Legacy: The Restoration and Ruin of the Courtenays 1479-1558 by Hazel Pierce.

Title is misleading (strongly suggest changing), data dump is frustrating, usual P&S author style of writing about others not central to the title. Whilst kudos for subject matter, once again let down by presentation. I shall wearily persevere - but so far, not overly impressed.

Catching up on getting out reviews for books I have read some time ago - very pleasant to revisit my reading list from some time ago.

Managed to remove a few books off the old TBR (want to read) list - whilst my intention was to read these books (now removed), some I lost complete interest in, others I cannot get a hold of a copy, and for the remaining few - I think it was pie in the sky wishful thinking.

Recently read a short story by Isabel Rogers called "The Wedding Piper".

Synopsis: When an English father arranges for Stockwell Park Orchestra to play at his daughter's wedding, little does he know that the Welsh mum of the groom has arranged for a bagpiper to do so too...

The focus on the day is on the band and the drink uncle .... the wedding piper. Quick read.

Oh so freaking good! Revenge upon revenge upon revenge. Like a celtic knot, revenge winds around itself before starting anew.

General Update: the start of 2025 will be spent catching up on reviews of books read in 2024. External studies in the second half of last year put a halt to reviewing (but not reading). Hope 2025 kicks off a bumper reading year for your all!

This is a long slow read - I pick it up when I am feeling bored with other books on my reading list. Always a joy to return to Poirot.

Currently reading: "Secret Servants of the Crown: The Forgotten Women of British Intelligence" by Claire Hubbard-Hall.

Have read quite a bit in between accounting textbooks - will post review and add to me "read" list shortly. Quite a mixed bag over the last few months.

I finally started this today 26 Aug. What a read so far.!
Historical fiction and historical mystery set in 19th Century Goree is engrossing.

Got a bit behind in reading this as had put it aside to focus on something else. Picking it back up again.

This is a "bedside table" read - so will be read over some period of time. Am enjoying it by the way.

Not what I was expecting - so will leave thoughts for when I eventually complete this read. (that sentence alone should give some inkling as to my final thoughts).

Not really finding myself engaged so this will be a slow and steady read. I have the second in the series waiting in the wings and hope to be done with at least this one sometime before year end.

So .. 65 pages down and nothing remotely resembling anything close to a biography on either women - just a lot of academic twaddle and assumptions with the occasional mention of either one or both. A lot of "concepts" being explored but not a lot substance so far.

Chapter 7 - my interest (in a subject matter that was of interest) is flagging. It has (is) taking much too long to get to where this should be - the assassination itself. Had this been a physical copy, I would have skipped ahead to the pertinent sections and most likely have finished this by now. However, this e-version has just made it easier for me to set aside and take up something else. Still persevering.

May 2019 - Oopsie daisies, Dory.!

Even when there is nothing happening, Herron still builds up an expectation that something just might and propels the reader ever onwards.
