Okay, fine, I’ll read Middlemarch.

Klein compares the racial doppelgänger with WEB Du Bois’ double consciousness.

Nazi holocaust as grotesque extension of settler colonial practice and ideology. Hitler’s ‘vegetarianism’ comparable to right wing individualist health optimisation - not to do with animal rights.

Klein presents a model of racism as the creation of a racial doppelgänger which is interacted with instead of the person present.

Klein brings in Philip Roth and Operation Shylock, as well as his name for his double, Moishe Pipik, ‘Moses’ belly button’.

Klein suggests using the framework of addiction to understand people who develop compulsive app use alongside extreme changes in viewpoint/willingness to break off or damage real life relationships.

Technically just finished listening to the audiobook, but much of the middle part of my listening was putting it on 20 minute sleep timers and then missing most of it. I appreciated the idea of racism as seeing a person’s racial doppelgänger. Klein has introduced me to a settler colonial view of nazism, and the holocaust’s precedent in British colonial genocides.

“[…]only then does the vision of the clean slate morph into it’s doppelgänger, the scorched earth”
