This is really very good. Lots of depth, originality, variety, vision. Gripping story and characters, unpredictable plot. Nice pace.

Very well written, larger fantasy style story being told through basically two characters, some proofing errors. Liking it a lot :)

Reminiscent of C.J. Sansom's excellent 'Shardlake' series, perhaps partly because they're set in the same historical period, but also because the writing is very good from both authors.

Brilliantly well written, jaw-droppingly good characters, superb use of language... yeah, it's okay. ;)

I've now read 8/24 novels in this collection, and continuing is becoming painful. With two or three exceptions, it seems to be a collection of juvenile authors who are blissfully unaware of their shortcomings. I may not finish each book from here on out. We'll see.

Hmmm. One notably good novel in the first six. Another just as good but a truly awful cliffhanger salesbait.

Early in the *fourth* story (Shereen Vedam's 'The Coven at Callington') and I'm going "At last! Good writing! At last..." Although, to be fair, Isaac Hooke was 'okay'.

Beautifully written, no surprise there. Too gripping, kept me up too late last night :)

This is great. Marais gives one of the best pictures of the development and conduct of a battle that I've yet read.

This is a serious historical work on the significance of the battle, and the roles of the key characters. As a South African with a historical bent, I'm finding this interesting and enjoyable.

This is really nicely written, one big surprise already and the story's unfolding in a fascinating way. Not yet sure of the tempo of the alternating pov's, they seem to switch back and forth just a little too quickly?

The Pieta story is deeply moving, beautiful, and quietly inspiring - rather like its namesake.

David Rose is on page 12 of 226 of The Pieta in Ordinary Time: And Other Stories
The opening story, The Last Refuge, is intelligently humane and demonstrates an impressive ability to invest the commonplace with a quiet but moving power. This is going to be a good collection!

Gloriously poetic, the plot clearly, I mean murkily, has not-yet-seen depths. Amazing writing.
