I enjoyed this much more on the second read. Not sure why. Perhaps just more used to bureaucracy meriting a good comic skewering. Lots of fun, anyway. Can never have too many almost dead gender-swapping Prime Ministers on life support in an age of rolling blackouts, etc.

Found my catch-line early in this one: “Nothing about Americans could be really interesting” (424).

Started. My last Cornwell (unless my father-in-law passes on more recent books). 10 pages in and annoyed already. Why does this author sell?

Actually re-reading the whole of Doonesbury (my 5th time). It takes a while. Currently at: 2 December 1971.

If a tithe (diction deliberate) of this novel is closer to fact than fiction, then everything in the U.S. is worse than I thought.

This is a delightfully terrifying labyrinth, which must be explored patiently and slowly.

One of the sloppiest pieces of “scholarship” that I’ve seen in a long time. A multitude of minor errors. It seems as though Brennan read A Dance to the Music of Time once and then wrote his critical survey from memory.
