Let the terrifying mermaid take begin!!! This may be the most excited I've been for a book in awhile...

I am delving into this series again -- I started to catch up before the movie and now I am continuing to make myself feel better after the movie.

Wizard and Glass is just as mesmerizing and foreboding as I remember!

The book so far is moving slowly towards just utter terror with just brief details. You know more than most of the characters, but not so much more than you aren't just nervous for them almost constantly.

And for the record, I will never be able to look at an ant hill the same away again.

How has it taken me this long to read anything by this author? This book is so much awesome.

Oh man oh man oh man oh man. Just as Dresden has that tendency to hate anything happening to women, I CANNOT handle something happening to a child, like what just happened in a flashback. :( Wish chapters had trigger warnings, especially when I am reading on my lunch break in the office. :(

I am wondering if the audio book would have been a better way to consume this book. I love Felicia's videos and definitely chuckled at a few things so far in this book... but the dialogue (with constant parentheses interrupting the text <--- see what I did there?) isnt my favorite reading so far.

Just had to set the book down because I was laughing too hard. Then I had to explain to my husband that there was going to be a wizard and a zombie T Rex and a one man polka band. Yes. So much yes.

In some ways this book is reminding me of The Goblin Emperor: both are political fantasy with a new outsider introspective ruler who is coming to rule not wholly prepared and mostly alone.

I am enjoying this book more than Fault in Our Stars (which was not one of my favorite reads last year... don't shoot me Green fans!).

I am loving the slowly building sense of doom. Spooky King is the best!

Have to admit I am feeling like I missed something between the end of book 2 and the start of this one -- friends who have read the series: was there any novellas, etc?

So, I made a goal this year of reading this series. And since it already almost halfway through the year, I realized I should start.

Best line of the book so far: when asked if everything was OK: "Oh, no.... World of no. All the no. The Tropics of Negative. Situation is not good, not peachy, not keen." LOL.

Pleasantly surprised at the more nuanced 'bad guy'. This is definitely turning into the sort of thriller that I like - smart, science-y, and scary. Not sure what is going to happen next.

One more lunchtime update: as someone who actually works day to day in clinical trials for a living -- I have just gotten used to having to suspend my disbelief that big bad corporations could get away with withholding bad side effects of new clinical products. (They really couldn't. Really.) I get the impression that this story is going that way, and I am a little disappointed. But maybe it wont? We'll see.

OK, this book is probably not a book to read on your lunch break. Or if you want to be able to eat ever again (shudders).

Yeah... this book is making me squirmy. I don't think I would handle that gel ultrasound machine with any amount of grace. My heart rate went up just thinking about it!

Really enjoying this upcoming month's bookclub pick. Even if it is all foreboding and knowing it will break my heart...
