This book is great. I’ve just been too busy to give it the attention it deserves in the speed that it deserves. But it feels very much like an episode of the TV series, which is what I was hoping.

So far, I'm enjoying this book for what it is—a light, escapist, action-adventure yarn—yet I can't help feeling mildly annoyed at the blatant stereotyping present in this book. I suppose it goes with the genre—but could we not have one—just one!—character from the Middle East who isn't either a terrorist or affiliated with terrrrists? Sheesh!

We meet Willa in short order, and her "gift" is described to us, rather than shown. At first, this bugged me, but I'm so delighted that this isn't another origin story that my irritation quickly subsided.

Paul's change felt pretty abrupt. I love the setting of this story; the plots and counterplots. But this sudden jump from Paul being a child of prophecy in one respect to this all-seeing, all-knowing Paul we get at the end of Book 1 ... it's not only feeling very abstract, but also lacking to me in credibility. Maybe this will be explored further in the book. I know it has to do with the spice. We shall see.

Love this character, the pacing, the suspense. But why make him a vampire? Vamps don’t seem to have any of the fun traits one would expect.

“Chance of a Ghost”: 5 Stars. I hope to see more of this character.

Werewolf story: 3 stars. Good story, but didn’t seem very pulpy to me.

Hidden City: 4 stars.

Forest of Sorrows: 4 stars.

Gothic gundighters story: 5 Stars.

Gridiron gets 5 stars. I want more! In a good way.

Dead at 50 is. a solid 3 stars, and would make a hell of a good Twilight Zone episode.

Nature of the Beast gets 1 Star.

Sergeant Janus story gets 2 stars.

The Grimm Spectre story gets 3 stars.

First couple stories were good, I’d say 4 stars apiece. I didn’t much care for the third story, though. It only gets 2 stars from me.

Lots and lots of xharacters. Wish there were fewer, and we were spendingmore time with them. Still a fun read.

A lot of characters to keep track of. Still, this is one hell of a fun ride.

This book is amazing! Sure, the writing isn’t perfect, but I’m having such a good time reading it, I don’t care!
