I have come to the conclusion that am not an intellectual. I just couldn’t get into this book despite the cover’s blip telling me it was one of the most important books of the 20th century (which is prompted me to buy it). I quit after 62 pages. I really didn’t care about snooty English people and how they looked down on Indians or how the Indians felt about the English imperialists.

What the hell is the point of this book?!! I like the writing, but I'm lost as to WTF the plot is leading to.

Ok, OK, I know I've already read this 10+ times, but an online fan club is re-reading the series and I had to join in. Loving just a much this time as the first and subsequent times. If you haven't read this series, you're missing great writing, great plots and the best love story ever!

Not really enjoying this book. The main character, Jane, is a hard-core alcoholic who has almost no personal skills. I'm having a hard time liking her at all. The book is so depressing and dark that I've thought about giving up on it several times. I keep reading, though, because I'm curious about why young Emily's parents were targeted for the murder that Jane is assigned to investigate.

Only reading it because it's the book that the book club is discussing it this weekend. The travel parts are good; the "can I settle down and marry the woman I've lived with for 7 years?" parts are beyond annoying.
