I am living life with these people. What a deeply storied and emotionally precise story. I will never forget them.

The complexity of it all! And there are moments that happen where I’m reminded they are literal kids.. thrown into this world without any guidance and all the messiness. As always, I’m in awe of Ferrante’s ability to articulate the intricate, complex, hard-to-catch emotions.

I’ve been loving the audiobook! Every voice is unique and breathes life into the character. I also love the switching POVs and the back and forth time jumps. It’s fun and I feel like I understand each character thoroughly. Love how much time we spend with each person to really get a sense of their psychology.

Listening via Audiobook on Spotify. Just decided to start it while washing dishes because I wanted something entertaining and plot-twisty. I knew it was on my list and I was kind of intrigued with getting back into thrillers to mix up the usual lit fic I read— boy, I am so glad I did! I could not stop listening, stayed up 3 extra hours just because 🤣 I’m hooked!

Screaming into my pillow because Toni knows how to dig deep and pull out words of the most ineffable life moments and emotions. This book is so relatable yet unimaginably poetic for a woman who has experienced infidelity and all its subsequent rage, sadness, lostness, yearning…I’m so invested to see how the second half of this book unfolds.

Grabbed this from a bookstore trip. Powerful stuff just in the first chapter. Helps me understand how our inner feelings and memories get built up and are often the first layer of understanding for us.

I was really excited for this one but after reading the first short story, Men and Women, I decided to DNF this book. The writing did not feel cohesive to me. Perhaps something got lost in translation.

The way my body has been tense while reading this book! I’ve had to leave it alone for a few days at a time, LOL. There are many blurred lines, many “woah did they really go there?”moments. Above all, this is a brave book to write and an exhilarating (and at times uncomfortable) reading experience. But I know it’s because Emezi is doing the exposing work of a true artist. Looking forward to how this ends.

Listening to the audiobook read by Toni Morrison herself. What an experience. I am lulled into the bounce of the language, the pictures she paints.

I’ve been noticing how her use of time makes for a more full, dynamic story. The lack of linear storytelling makes this story feel really real. Love the characters so far, too.

Having a hard time getting into this book. I was drawn in by the synopsis & first few pages, but as I’m getting through the book, it’s just not holding my interest. The author uses a lot of metaphors (of which I am usually a fan) but it disconnects me from the actual sentence, and ultimately, the story. Going to keep going til the 100 page mark before giving up. I have faith it’ll get good!
