You know it's going to be a tough but brilliant read when you tear up just reading the preface

A beautiful, existential, no-nonsense meditation on emotion and language in the face of death and loss. Love love love — I definitely picked the right book at the right time <3

I really think Mounk has a point and that the current social importance of "identity" is misguided and counterproductive, but to me any clear argument gets lost in poor citation practice and weird unfounded blanket statements about "the adherents/advocates of the identity synthesis": "Most advocates of the identity synthesis believe X", "Some writers emphasize both Y and Z". Where are the stats? Which writers??
