Just to note - there were no postcodes in Leeds in the 1950s. ( Vivienne's telegram to her mother) There probably wasn't a High St in Leeds either but that's fine, inventing the concept of postcodes 20 years early isn't.

Just a thought - who moves into an old house with a young family without cleaning it first? It's not as if it's far from the old one. Maybe not decorating but basic cleaning of the kitchen shelves?!

I manage a couple of pages & fall asleep. Can't remember any book that's done this. I'll see if I can manage to finish it in time for reading group!

Starting a re-read of this series :)

Started this on audio in the car but had to take the CD out so thought it was easier to read the book. Very confused on the audio that a book in the male first person was narrated by a woman!

Fabulous as always. Such an interesting back story. UK hardback ( at least) has date of may 1995 in error, have author permission to correct in the book!

Terribly wordy. Feels like Agatha Christie plot with odd bits to bring it up to 1980s ( Cordelia's mini) need to cf Diana re use of words.

Don't usually include audiobooks in my 'currently reading' but will be interested to see how this one goes!

A handy find in a cheap book shop when I went out yesterday without a book. Horror!!

Taking this for the train... as would finish "A pair of silver wings" before I finished journey. Nightmare!

not sure about this - the invented characters are great and interesting (Lindsey did give us Marcus Didius Falco and Helena Justina!) but there is too much general history stuck in there. OK I know it's important we know the context but if I wanted to read a history of the Civil War I'd do so.

nearly gave up after the first page - counted 'young man' as description of one character 10 times in first 2 pages! where's your imagination Bernard! Not only that but the first word of his description of the character is 'young' - err yes we'd guessed that!!!

started it a few weeks ago at lunchtime, now going to start again and read properly

had to give up part way through due to waiting list. Still interesting but as we get to battles I get less keen.

Picked this up in The Works in the week to read over my coffee!
