This book kind of comes and goes in waves. For an hour I'm hooked, and then I forget about it for three days. I enjoy the new PoV character but the fantasy elements are barely there and that's kind of what I came for? Otherwise, great read. It's basically straight-ahead Great Gatsby from a bi Thai (period) perspective.

Mmmh. This is going into Did Not Finish. The start of the entire book is a tonal difference at odds with the rest. We might have a character arc if Viv was a jerk to start with, but she's not. Just not my cup of tea.

Engagingly written, and mostly fair in treatment of both subjects. Concise without being overly dry. Multiple POVs from different accounts including Frederick Douglass.CW: ethnic slurs towards POC.

Still chugging through. The story's gears have finally bitten for me. I'm hooked through the mammoth task.

This book is excellent, but sometimes just looking at it feels like a mountain. I've lost my stamina for large novels it seems. Nonetheless, we press on!

While I read a lot of fiction (as evident by my reading list), I find that while I'm either working on creative tasks or doing exercise, I just can't listen to a story. Stories are transportive, they pull you away from the now; and going at about 18-20 MPH down a bike path is not quite the time and place for that.

Instead, I find I'm much more receptive to nonfiction. Time to start with a giant!

Sanderson usually spends time setting out the current picture of the world and the stakes, I'm used to him taking a little time to get going. 50 pages ago, the plot kicked in hard, and now it's easy sailing.

I personally find manga to be "cheaty" on goodreads as it's not really a book's time commitment. I'll use this volume to indicate the full series as its finished its print run.

Got hooked on it after the Netflix premiere. Some very good character development going on in this one.

In yet another book I am reading simultaneously, I'm reading this for my dad aloud who complained that the audiobook was terrible.

Something of an abrupt and jarring start, but building momentum.

Grabbed this on a whim at Books and Books because it had a pretty spine. Yes, I will do this.

I read this book when I was younger, but I don't think I quite gave it a fair shake. Let's try one more time.

I'm really struggling with this one. It's a little bit on over-saturated with description.

I'd read a little of this book as a kid and gotten bored of it. Revisiting this series as an adult, I wish I had stuck with it.

I really want to like this book, and I think the writing is fantastic, but for some reason I'm just having a *really* slow time getting into it.
