Am surprised to find this pretty overrated. Usually I'm a sucker for "big history," but this one isn't landing. I think where other authors draw out fascination from the reader, this author's cynicism crowds the page in a way that affected my ability to engage with the material or his conclusions. I wanted to give up around 1/3 of the way through and apparently some of his worst ideas are still yet to come.
