When I put this on hold from the library I didn’t realize it was a YA novel - I gave it a chance anyway, but after 5 chapters it’s not doing anything for me so I’m putting it down. I’ve read some YA fiction that I really enjoyed (His Dark Materials, Ursula K Le Guin’s Earthsea books, etc) but this seems aimed at a much younger audience than usual. A rare DNF for me.

I usually don’t bother with progress updates but this book is super long and I’m taking a break to read a shorter book I got from the library. Really enjoying it so far though.

Not doing a whole lot for me. I love all the world building and sci-if stuff but the plot itself hasn't grabbed me at all.

These stories are great, somewhere between Borges and Poe. Loving this book so far.

A bit slow going, mostly due to not having a lot of time to sit and read, but really fantastic and already the best thing I've read on a long time.

I've read a couple of the stories, but so far none have really grabbed me. Her style is very dry and detached feeling. A couple of reviews on here cite "Lois the Witch" as the best story, so I'll check that out next, but if I don't enjoy it I'm gonna give up on the rest of the book.

Giving this series another chance... needed something dumb and fun to read after a couple of really crazy weeks at work.

Re-reading this before finally starting the rest of the trilogy.

This book is crazy, loving it so far. Interesting to read fantasy that is totally original (and sometimes gross).

Mostly good so far, although I'll admit to skimming the sections of "who killed who".

The beginning of the story reminds me very strongly of "The Big Sleep" - I wonder if Chandler was inspired by this novel at all?
