Meh. Filled my Bridgerton void. Great beginning. Ok middle. Lack lustered ending.

“Then why does this have to be the end of it?” The plaintiff note in her voice almost made him reconsider. Almost. It took him a while to reply, patching the last cracks in his resolve.
“Because I am heading down the hill and you’re headed up it. I’m just glad we chance to meet on the way.”

This book is like a dream. It's fantastic and magical but at times disjointed. Not exactly hard to follow you kindof just go with it but with so many storylines that are interwoven which is brilliant but at times I feel lost. I'm not even done yet but I already feel I have to reread it but it's a LONG book, not sure I'm up to the challenge. The ending is really going to make or break this book for me, no pressure.

You can tell that Morganstern likes short stories. Fairy tales. Myths. Both in The Night Circus (Widget's story was one of my favorite parts, granted it was basically the story of Merlin) and in The Starless Sea. I think so far The Starless Sea has been a brilliant way to publish original short stories by hiding them throughout the narrative of a novel about secret societies.

ugh this is going to be one of those feel bad for the bad guy type stories, isn't it? ::aggressive eyeroll::

I'm already sick of the name CoriolANUS, how many times is the narrator going to say it?

and yes, I'm choosing to read it but I truly hate follow up stories, they're never as good as the original

cough::harrypotter, cinder, mediator ::cough <- what absolute crap

But I'm an optimist...so we will see.

This is not how I saw this story going...
Can we just all agree that Eugénie Danglars is the true hero?

Why do I love Lifetime/Hallmark/bad romcoms but when it comes to books I hold such a higher standard?
Spoilers:

an experienced nurse Nurse Practitioner/midwife doesn't noticed she's 3 months pregnant but her exMarine/bartender boyfriend figures it out first?

--The tv show is better.

Very tongue in cheek, in the vein of Douglas Adams or Jasper Fforde, my kind of book.

My only comment so far is that sometimes she seems to get stuck in a joke, and takes it like 7 sentences too far but not far enough where it becomes funny again.

Having said that, I am still very much enjoying it.
