I don't usually like "meet cute" or "love at first sight" stories (call it emotional trauma from growing up as the big girl that was never going to be the love at first sight interest, I guess). But this one has a twist, and so far, so good.

Okay, I'm only a little bit in, and usually I HATE a left at the alter/runaway bride trope (I just think it's so unforgivably mean, just freaking fake it and dont file the paperwork/get it annulled if you somehow made the whole way to a wedding before deciding its not working, but I digress).

BUT. The banter in this one is so genuinely funny that I am all in so far.

I rarely say this, but this book is too long. It takes like half the book to even get to the shipwreck, and then the mutiny and murder part is over by like 75% in. So basically you get half a book about cool fact about nautical things (like where phrases like "three sheets to the wind" come from), which is normally exactly my cup of tea, but in this case it wasn't why I picked up this book.
