Angharad is on page 87 of 666 of Gardens of the Moon (Malazan Book of the Fallen, #1)
I'm taking notes and engaging with the text and the lore within it like it's a history book from another world. I haven't felt this compelled to check every nook, every line for crumbs of detail since my first playthroughs of Dark Souls and Elden Ring. Every single line of prose adds something to the world; another brick to construct this massive Gothic cathedral of a book

Every single line in this matters. It’s scratching that itch for the world building Fromsoftware does through item descriptions and surrealist bizarre scenery and dialogue. VERY VERY highly recommend the kindle version so you can highlight and make the font big.

The Dark Souls of books, very cryptic and bizarre for the vibes. The print in my hardcover is teeny tiny I might buy the kindle edition so I’m not squinting at it

This is a slow burn, for sure. I can't say yet even this far into it if I like it or not because the main character is the only one that feels even remotely like a person and not a side character

This is more character driven than plot, very little has happened in these first 100 pages. The Prince Osian seems like a wet blanket and the whole time I'm reading this I'm thinking, man I wish I was rereading Captive Prince right now.

This gets moving pretty darn fast, my copy doesn't have page numbers but I'm assuming the marriage is as early as like 20 pages in

Angharad is on page 270 of 346 of Sojourn (Forgotten Realms: Dark Elf Trilogy, #3; Legend of Drizzt, #3)
I hated this book reading it back in 2019 but reading it in 2026 after endless romantasy slop and grimdark depressing stories, it feels wholesome and good for the spirit to have such a classic timeless story as a hero trying to find his place in the world. The difference a few years can make.

This enemies to lovers (perhaps?) is very heavy on the enemy side. Like plotting to murder him heavy

There’s a whooooole lot of characters in this that don’t really seem to matter. The writing is a little weird, it doesn’t feel particularly urgent or lyrical. It’s serviceable enough I suppose but I haven’t read anything that I would remember later.

This one has a lot of really mixed reviews so far; Princess Mononoke is one of the best and weirdest movies ever made so I can understand wanting to write something in that same spirit. It's far too early to tell if the author can pull it off. Also, I have an early copy so I can't speak to if it has illustrations or not. I think that could've helped it out.
