Way more brutal and nasty than Hunger Games

I love this series. I wish that there were 10 more books in it. I just love it. Everything about it was so good and so intense my guts were turning inside because I was so worried about these characters. I care about them so much and it’s been a really long time since I’ve read a book where I was this invested.

All the slice of life stuff is making me want to chew glass because it slows the pacing down so much. This could’ve been a lean and mean 400 pages of murder mystery but theres probably 200+ pages of characters just hanging out. This is how I know cozy fantasy isn’t for me 🤣

Why am I enjoying this so much

The prose in this seems a little short and choppy, almost like it’s been translated from another language into English

The plot twists never stop, please god let this get made into a tv show someday soon

This is what Blood Over Bright Haven and The Name of the Wind both wish they were. Having a likeable protagonist does wonders.

Legitimately one of the best and smartest protagonists I’ve read in a long time, but he’s still a 17 year old boy who makes mistakes. Vis is easily going to cement himself as a favorite for me

This is so good it’s like candy. I regret letting other people’s reviews that call Vis a Gary Stu keep me from reading this. He’s really not, first of all, he’s just super intelligent. Secondly, it is so extremely, intensely refreshing to have a protagonist that’s not as sharp as a bowling ball. If you’re tired of idiot main characters, do yourself a favor and pick this up.

How many more times do I have to read the words “alpha-hole?”

I know I'm super early into this, but it reminds me a lot of reading The Count of Monte Cristo, Vis is that type of incredibly smart like Edmond Dantes was and it's delightful. I'm rooting for you Vis

I think I'm just done, it feels like a world that doesn't deserve saving so I have no reason to root for the heroes. I'm pulling for the vampires here.

The constant homophobia and misogyny in this book makes me want to vomit profusely. The Silversaints are supposed to be the "good guys" in this book against the evil vampires, but their religious zealotry and bigotry disgusts me. It's not a spoiler that they all die because the book opens up with saying Gabriel is the last Silversaint. Good. screw all these guys

Bryce is simultaneously the best and worst thing about this book because she’s very relatable and human but she’s also extremely annoying and stupid
