Not really sure this world needed any mundanes, I feel like everyone could just be aware of magic to a degree or have low/minimal powers and little about the scenario would suffer. Maybe it's going somewhere exciting but I find this secret world stuff takes away from the actually interesting magic stuff.

I’ve never been able to get into a Harrison book before, but the magic system here is interesting enough that I’m (so far) looking past the cringier elements (constant references to the music the heroine is listening to, for example).

It shouldn't take this long to explain Frasier.

Absolutely living up to the hype so far.

Every piece of this memoir so far has been excellent and every bit as good as anticipated. Pick this up.

All of this has been articulated better by other writers, but I'm still plodding along because hey, I love being terrified of prions.

The problem with these books is that they're so damn easy to read. If I went at the pace I wanted to go at, I'd have this book finished immediately... but then the wait for the next one would be unbearable. When it comes to genuinely just /nice/ light novel content in English it really is hard to beat this series.

Draws heavily from Shirow’s concepts in GitS and Real Drive, with a dash of Scalzi’s Lock In. Not particularly original in its setup but still functions adequately as a SF mystery. Honestly, I just appreciate seeing a new light move that isn’t friggin isekai…

I'm glad I double-dipped this one, it's lovely. There's nothing groundbreaking in these short stories, but there's something just so welcoming about these little tales of individuals and their gems.

The novels and manga also give significantly more detail and context than the anime adaptation so if you've only seen the anime, you'll get a lot out of the original novels and the manga adaptation.

The step-siblings and single parent stuff is very real ooof

Viola and Gracewood have had an absurd amount of one-on-one time so far. It's a bit absurd given the period, but I think what bothers me more is that there's only a wafer thin deception between these two, and the rest is palpable tension. I'm not sure how the plot can sustain keeping them apart believably when it's this intense from the get-go.
