I finished the first part of the book. As a Malayali, who has heard stories from their grandmother and elders, I had been able to relate to the story. Even though most part of the part one is trying to explain the life in Kerala to an outsider, the narrative style felt most likely inspired by the great writers of Malayalam literature.
