What was the original final chapter of the book, entitled "Hope," for me, offered nothing of the kind.

Rocannon improved his time with surreptitious isometric exercises. When a passing woman caught him stretching, he stretched on, swaying and emitting a low, weird croon. She dropped to all fours and scuttled out, whimpering.

Sir Francis gets dark, doesn't he.
