I really want to like this (because no one writes about/using cats quite like the Japanese) but I'm not gelling with the narrator.

Started really well but now it's dragging, and plot elements getting tangled...

After years of it sitting on my "currently reading" shelf I am DNFing, deleting it from my Kindle and pretending it doesn't exist. Hated it.

Lots of 'things' happen but not a lot of the internal side of mc, Moa. I want to know more about him, his wants, his idea of what happens after freedom, freedom defined by the absence of abuse feels too broad, too general, (works on readers assumption than storytelling?)

Big "Boy in Stripped Pyjamas but slavery" vibes, hopefully there will be more exploration of relationships, however, works as a teen introduction to Jamaican history, the island's uprisings/revolts, and slavery during the Empire (rather than the usual "it was the Americans" narrative)

Anyone else getting numerous notifications from bot profiles? At least I assume they're bots, maybe there are just lots of cam girls with goodreads accounts

For such a small book there is SO MUCH in this, I'm probably going to have to re-read/relisten just to absorb it all
