There are so many gems in this book. My favorite part is the respect and dignity given to the personhood of a child.

I think often adults forget that children are in fact, persons. A whole entire human being. With their own personality and likes/dislikes. As a parent we work on helping them shape their will into a virtuous one with love and patience. I found this book to be edifying in that matter.

I really enjoyed the letter writing format of the book with the bits of history thrown here and there.

What stood out the most, probably the real reason I found this book delightful, was the love of food, the friendship, and sharing of everyday life. It made me a bit wistful and longing for a friend to do this with as well.

I didn’t really finish it. Just didn’t like it.

I loved this book. An interweaving of two stories that are centuries apart and yet so close.
