‘She opens the shower door and turns the handle, waits for the water to get warm. In the meantime she brushes her teeth quickly, spits white lather neatly down the drain, and takes her hair down from the knot at the back of her neck. Then she strips off her dressing gown and hangs it on the back of the bathroom door’: the author constantly walks her readers through every step of her characters’ mundane actions.

The plot is definitely more intense in the last third of this novel.

Fascinating so far.

I suppose I have come to know the male and female protagonists? I predicted the former’s reflexive gestures on page 170 and the latter’s interpretations of some questions on page 173.

Finally some suspenseful drama that I care about. However, this feels like vacuous investment.

To be fair, I have found a handful of sentences thought-provoking or deep.

A fellow Goodreads user’s review of this novel contains the sentence ‘Nothing happens.’ So far, I agree.

This book is not any better after a pause in reading.

This novel is one confusing scene after another.
